Which Northern Michigan Golf Courses are the Best?
Many people don't realize that Michigan is a great place to play golf. That is, until they experience some of the fantastic courses found here. There are a variety of northern Michigan golf courses which are comparable to those found in popular golf destinations such as Pebble Beach, California and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In this article we will explore the benefits and features of some of the top resorts and courses in this area of the nation.
Boyne is one of the finest names in golf. In the northwest portion of Michigan, be sure to visit Boyne Highlands and Boyne Mountain. At the Boyne Highlands Golf Resort, you will enjoy four incredible courses. It's like being in Scotland, only better! The four courses are the Heather, Arthur Hills, Moor and Donald Ross Memorial Course. The Heather was ranked in the top 100 courses by Golf Magazine, while the Moor offers a number of water holes and marshes for those that enjoy this type of challenge. Any one of these four courses is a pleasure to play and is time well spent!
At the Boyne Mountain Resort, you will find two fabulous courses -- the Monument and the Alpine. The pleasure of playing the Monument begins with a mile long ride to the top of this emerald treasure. The first hole is thought to be one of the most difficult found anywhere and is protected by a beautiful pond. So many legends have played here that there are holes named for them, such as Sam Snead and Byron Nelson. The Alpine Course heads downhill towards Deer Lake and is as beautiful as it is challenging.
Boyne isn't the only name in golf. Another one of the finest Northern Michigan golf courses worth your time is Crystal Mountain. At this full service resort there are two courses as well as professional instruction available for all skill levels. The first course is called Mountain Ridge and weaves through lush forests and fairways lined with trees. Betsie Valley is the other course found here and is a real beauty, featuring rolling green meadows, crystalline creeks and peaceful ponds. You can either walk or take a cart through the Betsie Valley course, whose fairways are dotted with delicate wildflowers.
Although these are only a few of the Northern Michigan golf courses, they represent the most popular. Whether you are a new golfer or one who has enjoyed the sport for decades, you can find incredible courses and gorgeous natural scenery in this part of the nation. So next time you're planning a golf vacation, give Michigan some serious thought!
